Meaning

Moderation and balance, coupled with a lot of patience. Going the middle path. Just a little, not it all. The perfect harmony that comes from the union of dualities. A good blend of each energy to bring about a happy outcome. Her advice is to test any new waters before jumping into the deep end. Be cautious and thoughtful of your actions. Remain patient, steady and devoted; all good things take time. Optimism. Meaningful.

Very powerful. After death, the self is transmuted and tempered by the temperance angel into something new -- the card of balance.

Its title is a play on the process of tempering metals in a forge. Metals must undergo extremes of temperature, folding, and pounding, but the end product is far superior. The soul volunteers the ego for a cleansing and healing experience. Reference to the soul. Classically female, mixing up a blend of subtle energies for the evolution of the personality.

Symbolizes the soulmate, the divine lovers, and alchemy. Combination. Blending of wills, compromise, tolerance. You can adapt and work in harmony with others. Calm, tranquillity, serenity. You likely find peace.

This card implies you have a clear vision and know what you want to achieve. Identify and acquire the ingredients that will most help you complete your mission and leave the rest behind. A tremendous amount of benefit is available if you can organize yourself and be disciplined at this time. It’s a time to evaluate and re-examine the priorities you have chosen. Create a balance between your outer and inner self. Find purpose.

Don’t be too pushy nor too reserved (especially in love). Can signal a good job in balancing your career with different aspects of your life; it is neither an all consuming ambition or just a paycheck to you. Financially, be diligent with savings but splurge once in a while.

Reversed Meaning

Something that is out of balance and may be causing stress and anxiety. The real meaning of the Temperance card can be deciphered using the other cards in the spread to identify areas where this imbalance is being caused.

Beware extremism, excess. Think about the outcome if swayed towards gluttony -- hangovers are not fun! Similarly, all-or-nothing thinking can be toxic. Life has gray areas. You’d also benefit from being patient. Lack of balance (e.g. doing too little or too much at work) should be corrected. Recklessness, hastiness.

Lack of a long-term plan or vision. This creates a lack of purpose. You must reflect on what needs to change. All things are only good in moderation. We must examine where we are breaking the balance.
